This cast bas relief sculpture, intended to be inset into a wall, is very uncommon, perhaps rare. I believe this was made in the mid to early 19th C, likely in Europe. The subject, a regal figure on horseback, holds outward a pheasant he has captured. Portions of the horse, hunter, dogs, and pheasant extend forward outside the frame, so they would stick forward out from the wall slightly. It measures about 17 1/2" W x 14" H x 3 1/2 D, and was made to be embedded into a wall with only the scene shown. Many years ago it was spray painted an antique gold, and there are some small spots where that gold has peeled...

See the horse's neck. These areas blend into the scene pretty well, so they are not immediately noticed.

One could, if one chose, repaint it or strip it to reveal the spelter's grey metal look. On the back lower right facing quadrant there is an added later small brass disk with the numerals 20, perhaps an inventory number. It weighs approx 12 1/2 pounds.
